Can Ellen Save The Dogs?
Dana Point, CA (PRWEB) October 24, 2007 -- The Pin-Up models of Pinups For Pups are challenging talk show host Ellen DeGeneres to heal the wounds created by the Mutts & Moms fiasco. Pinups for Pups owners Sondra Joy and Jake Shannon recently created a campaign to raise awareness about responsible pet ownership and the millions of innocent dogs that are put down every year.
"Our main idea is to keep [the campaign positive," says Jake, who is a financial professional and new father. "We didn't want to bash anyone, but this is what animal advocates can do. We can promote responsible pet ownership. We just want Ellen to really understand that it is a standard practice to have an Animal Return Provision in animal adoption contracts."
Sondra, a family entertainment entrepreneur and the publisher of the forthcoming 2008 Pinups for Pups Calendar originally got the idea from watching Ellen's heart-felt emotional outpouring on her nationally broadcast television talk show, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," in which DeGeneres broke down into tears after the debacle. After discussing many options on how to turn this into a positive step to benefit homeless animals, the pair came up with the idea for an campaign to help improve the responsible pet ownership education DeGeneres and, in turn, others throughout the country.
They quickly created a Web site, www.CanEllenSaveTheDogs.com , and sent out press releases, emails, and canvassed Myspace. Their message is to urge concerned animal lovers to send either an e-mail or a letter expressing their desire for Ellen and Mutts & Moms to bury the hatchet for the greater good of the doomed animals.
"We strongly believe the amount of publicity generated by this conflict can be leveraged to wisely council the uninitiated in the ways of responsible pet ownership," the website reads. "We do not know if there are any underlying legal issues that would prevent their reconciliation. Again, it is not our intention to condemn or condone Ellen's or Mutts & Moms' stance, just to use this attention to help the animals that really need it. The challenge is sincerely only meant to have a strong positive impact on the welfare of man's best friend."
So far, the response has been good, Sondra says. This week, they've received dozens of emails from Animal Rescues that read their website. Jake sees this as proof of how quickly the campaign can grow and how fast word can spread.
"We'd love to hear from Ellen herself," Sondra says. "We have connections in the animal rescue all over the country. There are more than enough people to help sort this out. If Ellen Degeneres does begin to help animal rescues and if she understands and promotes responsible pet ownership, well, that's a great way for this disaster to turn around."
"According to published reports, DeGeneres has twice given away recently rescued dogs. We aren't saying that DeGeneres is guilty of what many dog adopters unfortunately do; adopting a 'cute' puppy and then when they later realize the tremendous amount of work a puppy requires, they renege on their commitment. The Mutts & Moms enforced a common provision that protects rejected animals provision that if disregarded it would open the door to the reckless disposal of many innocent animal adoptions."
